Hawai‘i is not a state. It’s stolen land. After a U.S.-backed military coup overthrew the Hawaiian Kingdom and Queen Lili‘uokalani, the U.S. government illegally annexed the islands in 1898. Native Hawaiians (Kānaka Maoli) are fighting for the return of their independence, rights, and land. They are fighting for Hawaiian sovereignty and decolonization. Join our conversation on Decolonization and Anti-capitalism with Presley Ke'alaanuhea Ah Mook Sang (Puuhuluhulu University) and Professor Noelani Goodyear–Ka‘ōpua (University of Hawai'i)! We’ll explore their work to protect Mauna Kea, the return of the Hawaiian language and cultural practices, ending militarization in the Pacific, and the movement for Hawaiian sovereignty.
